Maharashtra govt scraps VIP passes for temples
Maharashtra government has abolished VIP passes for several shrines including the iconic Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai.
From Shilpa Shetty to the Bachchans, the stars never fail to make a stop at the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai for Lord Ganesha's blessings. But the VIP visits have irked thousands of other devotees who have to patiently wait their turn in the long lines.
Now, after receiving a string of complaints from the public the Maharashtra government has decided to abolish VIP passes that enable speedy darshan.
According to this new Government Resolution VIP passes in 3067 state-run temples will be cancelled. Among these temples are the Shirdi Saibaba Temple, the Mahalaxmi Temple of Kolhapur, the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai, and the Pandharpur Temple.
Senior citizens, pregnant women, and parents with children, however will be given direct entry
"We don't want to inconvenience devotees, but we believe they will benefit from the banning of VIP passes," says Maharashtra Law and Judiciary Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil.
The devotees have also welcomed the decision.
For the VIPs, though, it looks like it will be a long wait from now on.
